HIPAA: A Review for Pharmacy Technicians

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the administrative requirements that apply to covered entities required under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  2. Recall the standards that are required to secure protected health information under the
  3. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  4. Identify the steps taken by a covered entity if a breach of unsecured protected health information (PHI) happens.
  5. Discuss the relationship between the Health
  6. Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Heath Act (HITECH) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  7. Describe strategies employed by a covered entity to ensure HIPAA compliance.
