Diabetes: A Comprehensive Review for Pharmacy Technicians


Learning Objectives:

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the functional roles the endocrine system, specifically the pancreas, in managing glucose levels and metabolism of the body
  2. Identify the signs and symptoms of the types of diabetes including the different diagnostics used by health care professionals to confirm the diagnosis
  3. Explain the prognosis of diabetes including the complications it creates with other disease states
  4. Recognize current pharmaceutical and homeopathic treatments available for the different types of diabetes
  5. Understand the overall impact diabetes has on a patient, from changes to their lifestyle to the physical, mental, and financial hardships they must endure. Determine the roles pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have in enhancing the efficacy of care provided to patients suffering from diabetes.
