Pharmacy-Based Vaccination – A Comprehensive Review of Current Guidelines

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Define vaccination, immunization, and inoculation.
  2. Identify the role of the pharmacist in vaccination administration.
  3. Describe the legal authority a pharmacist has been granted to vaccinate.
  4. Name the training a pharmacist/pharmacy technician needs to participate in vaccine

  5. List the CDC recommended vaccinations for children and adolescents.
  6. List the CDC recommended vaccinations for adults and groups with specific health conditions.
  7. Outline strategies for counseling patients on vaccine recommendations.
  8. Demonstrate proper vaccination administration techniques.
  9. Identify how to manage a medical emergency following administration of a vaccine.
  10. Recognize the need for certification in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation for a vaccinator.
  11. List the required documentation and reporting duties for immunization records.
  12. Describe how to conduct a community immunization event.
  13. Recognize vaccine hesitancy and how to overcome it.
  14. Discuss the CDC Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 Vaccination.
  15. Describe the latest FDA updates on available COVID-19 vaccines.
