- Understand HIV transmission, types of exposures, and risk assessment.
- Describe the role of the pharmacist in sexual health and STI management.
- Describe effective strategies to build trust with patients when taking a sexual history.
- Explain the ³5Ps + 3´approach and its importance in the sexual history.
- Explain the concept of gender diversity and the needs of LGBTQ+ patients.
- Discuss issues surrounding medical mistrust and equity gaps and how they impact patient care.
- Explain the roles of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and
HIV treatment in STI/HIV prevention. - Identify key STI/HIV counseling tips in the pharmacy setting.
- Implement PEP protocols, including point-of-care testing, patient assessment, and counseling.
- Identify special circumstances surrounding STI testing and treatment of minors.
- Discuss STI reporting and how to work with public health in the comprehensive care of
patients.
