At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the differences between fraud, waste, and abuse in pharmacy practice.
- Identify red flags in prescriptions, billing data, prescribers, and patient behaviors that may indicate FWA.
- Recognize common FWA schemes – including DAW manipulation, billing for drugs not dispensed, duplicate therapy, controlled-substance diversion, and PA fraud.
- Document observations clearly and accurately to support pharmacist review, audits, and compliance
investigations. - Apply workflow safeguards and prevention strategies to reduce opportunities for FWA within daily operations.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility in escalating FWA concerns through appropriate channels.
