Dr. Abel Guevara III is Head of Operations & Student Success at RxTechExam, a PTCB-recognized pharmacy technician education and training program, and an adjunct faculty member in the College of Health Professions at Texas State University. Beginning his career as a pharmacy technician nearly three decades ago, Abel has advanced through pharmacy, DMEPOS, compliance, revenue cycle, health information management, operations, executive leadership, education, and national professional service.
His Impact Story
My impact in education and training began nearly three decades ago when I became a pharmacy technician and discovered how education can transform both a career and the care we provide to patients. As my career advanced into DMEPOS, compliance, revenue cycle, health information management, operations, and executive leadership, education remained a constant responsibility — teaching Medicare requirements, documentation, reimbursement, HIPAA, accreditation standards, and pharmacy operations.
Today, that commitment is at the center of my work at RxTechExam and Texas State University. I am particularly passionate about helping pharmacy technicians recognize that certification does not have to represent the finish line — it can be the beginning of an extraordinary healthcare career.

“Never allow your current title to define the boundaries of your future. Ask questions. Earn credentials. Find mentors. Attend conferences. Volunteer… Most importantly, once you advance, turn around and extend your hand to the next technician coming behind you.”
