Bio
Diana Broome, MEd, CPhT, PhTR, is Program Director of Pharmacy Technician Advancement at Harris Health and a pharmacy technician educator and workforce-development leader with 28 years of pharmacy experience and more than 20 years in higher education. Today, she leads the School of Pharmacy Technician Advancement (SPTA) at Harris Health, collaborating across pharmacy operations, clinical practice, human resources, workforce development, education, and community partnerships to strengthen technician preparation, workforce readiness, and career advancement opportunities.
Her Impact Story
Throughout my career, I have used data and stakeholder input to identify workforce needs and develop solutions that strengthen pharmacy technician education, advancement, and patient care. In higher education, I led development of an AAS in Pharmacy Management, military crosswalk and Prior Learning Assessment pathways, ACPE-accredited continuing education and sterile compounding certification, and simulation environments that continue to serve learners today.
I brought the same evidence-based approach to Harris Health. Analysis of technician shortages, vacancies, turnover, and workforce feedback identified a need to strengthen our technician pipeline. I secured $350,000 in grant funding and led the development of the School of Pharmacy Technician Advancement (SPTA), established in 2024 — an earn-while-you-learn model integrating education, simulation, experiential learning, certification prep, and wraparound support.
The impact extends beyond those I directly educate. Across more than two decades, hundreds of former students have carried their knowledge, professionalism, and commitment to patient care into countless interactions with patients, pharmacists, and healthcare teams. That ripple effect is central to my work: creating sustainable pathways that develop people, strengthen the workforce, and support safe, high-quality patient care.
