Bio
Kyla joined Dave’s Pharmacy straight out of high school and has grown into the team’s anchor. She streamlined the long-term-care changeover process that allows a small, rural retail pharmacy to serve more than 10 long-term-care facilities, while keeping five delivery routes and four drivers organized and on time across the Nebraska panhandle. She dedicates herself to training and mentoring new teammates, and her nominators describe her as the cornerstone of an award-winning small-town pharmacy.
Her Impact Story
Every exceptional team has a cornerstone, and for us, that is Kyla. As our ultimate “go-to” pharmacy technician, she is the reliable force who consistently steps up to ensure our pharmacy runs seamlessly, no matter the challenge. Kyla’s leadership shines brightest in how she anchors our team, selflessly dedicating her time to training and mentoring new teammates with patience and expertise. Training new teammates is a task in and of its own however, Kyla managers to help do that while completing her own Nursing Home change over and daily orders. She is vital in our partnership with nursing home facilities, collaborating deeply with staff to advocate for and deliver the highest standard of coordinated care to our residents. Kyla doesn’t just get the job done—she elevates everyone around her, making her absolutely indispensable to our pharmacy and our community.
Measurable Results
- The Nominee contributes on a daily basis to the safety of patients within the organization via active engagement in the IV with opportunities to remedy technicians who do not adhere to proper USP regulation, is part of the SOP and policy committee and USP workgroup and in these functions has direct safety and operational impact in decision making processes of the department.
- The nominee successfully advocated for the creation of an education-dedicated role to improve the professional advancement of the department staff and has created internal guides and provides mentorship to ensure staff success in obtaining advanced credentialing.
- The nominee ensures the creation of a standardized training approach.
- The nominee has historically and will in future be engaged in technician-dedicated work groups that are based on professional development and advocacy.
- Most recent results of the work and work group leadership are expected to be published on the TPTS website within the next two months as info-graphics and re-structured website content following work group recommendations.
- The nominee’s engagement on a local level has resulted in the award of Pharmacy Technician of the Year of 2024 for MaSHP and the recording of a CE for the annual meeting on the topic of USP.
- As assistant facilitator of the ASHP Designated Person Training she aides in the adherence of institutions and their staff to the regulations of USP.
- A lot of work is done behind the scenes and not immediately visible, but crucial and important work that has overall impact on the profession and its members.
