Understanding Current Issues in Pediatric Medication Adherence


Learning Objectives:

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the common barriers to medication adherence.
  2. Discuss implications of poor medication adherence. 
  3. Review the anatomy and physiology of taste.
  4. Identify how taste can impact medication adherence.
  5. List common medications associated with poor palatability.
  6. List considerations for flavoring medications in clinical practice.
  7. Explain the importance of choice and patient preferences with regards to medication adherence. 
  8. Explain how flavoring can improve the patient medication experience and ultimately improve medication adherence.
