The Best Halloween Costume You Can Wear in a Pharmacy? You Had Ideas.

We asked for the best Halloween costume you can wear in a pharmacy. You came back with pill bottles…a stressed-out nurse…and a ghost-type Pokémon named after a real medication.

The short version: Pharmacy teams sent in costume ideas that are easy to wear, easy to recognize, and hard to forget. They range from pill bottles and patients to a full Eeveelution crew, an Inside Out team, a group of gnomes, and Michael Myers behind the counter. Pick one, grab your team, and wear it on October 31st.

What costume ideas did you send in?

Here’s the lineup at a glance:

  • An Eeveelution crew, with two team members as pharmacy-inspired Pokémon: Ramelteon and Bupropion
  • Michael Myers, always watching
  • A bunny and a Winnie the Pooh who turned flu shots into a Halloween punchline
  • Dress up as a patient
  • Pill bottles
  • Dr. Bear
  • A stressed-out nurse
  • Team costumes: Inside Out characters, gnomes, and a skeleton, burglar, angel, and dragon queen

Let’s take them one at a time.

What happens when a pharmacy team meets Pokémon?

Vanity Lang (“Msvanitylang” on Instagram) started with a simple setup. Get a group of pharmacists and pharmacy techs to cosplay the different evolutions of Eevee, also known as Eeveelutions. Then let two people on the team add their own spin and show up as pharmacy-inspired Pokémon.

Vanity admits she couldn’t shake it. She works with one of these medications nearly every day, and both names sound like Pokémon to her. Once you hear it, you can’t unhear it.

Here’s how Vanity built them:

Ramelteon

  • Pale yellow and cream, like the pill
  • A Ground-type, with a fennec fox look to match the color
  • Black markings on its legs, where Umbreon has gold ones, to represent the API casing
  • A black-tipped tail to represent the black API lid

Bupropion

  • White and black, like the 150mg or 300mg pills
  • A Ghost-type, inspired by either the ghost bat or the pygmy possum
  • Billows of smoke, a nod to the smoke cessation effect of the pill
  • A white vial cap-shaped hat, the way Sylveon has bows

That is a full character sheet. It tells you something, too: the people behind the counter know their medications so well that they see them everywhere.

Why is Michael Myers a good pharmacy costume?

Because he’s always watching. That’s the pitch we received, and every tech who has ever felt eyes on them from the line, the phone, and the clock will understand it.

The photo came in from Martin’s Wellness Pharmacy – Lamar Plaza Drugstore. It shows pharmacy technician (and owner) @ashleyjade82 from a few Halloweens back. Michael Myers, mask on, right behind the counter.

Can a costume make a flu shot less scary?

The team at Martin’s Wellness Pharmacy – Lamar Plaza Drugstore thinks so. They sent us a video, and it opens with pharmacy technician Madison, dressed as a bunny, asking one question: “What is scarier than ghosts?” The answer is the flu.

Then she and a coworker in a Winnie the Pooh costume go straight to work. They gave flu shots to two more people: one dressed as Rudolph, and Noah, in regular scrubs. All of it was meant to make the “kids” feel comfortable getting their flu shots last Halloween.

Think about what that took. A needle on the way…a bunny in the room…and a punchline about the flu. Small things change how a hard moment feels, and your team already knows that better than anyone.

Why not dress up as the patient?

Cristina Jo Wiley, commenting on Facebook, kept hers to four words: dress up as a patient.

Anyone who has worked a counter can already picture it. No props required…no explanation needed…and every coworker will know exactly who you’re playing.

What did one central fill team do?

Roselle Dull, commenting on LinkedIn, remembers what her central fill team pulled off. People dressed as pill bottles, Dr. Bear, and a stressed-out nurse.

Notice what those costumes have in common. It’s the pharmacy, wearing itself. Pharmacy people laughing at pharmacy life might be the healthiest thing in the building.

Want to see these costumes in action?

Here are the photos you sent in.

Arianna Santos. Her team dressed up as characters from Inside Out, and a group of people dressed up as gnomes.

Maria Ronette Atienza. Her team in four different costumes: a skeleton, a burglar, an angel, and a dragon queen.

Why does a costume day matter in a pharmacy?

Here’s what you already know. You carry a lot into that building. The line never stops…the phone never stops…and the thank-yous come far too rarely.

One day a year, you get to carry a pill bottle on your head instead.

A team that laughs together at the counter is a team that makes it through the rest of the week. That deserves a little room on the calendar.

Frequently asked questions

What are good Halloween costume ideas for a pharmacy?

Start with what your team already knows: a giant pill bottle, a patient, a stressed-out nurse, Michael Myers, or a group costume like the Eeveelutions with a pharmacy twist. If your coworkers can recognize it in two seconds, it works.

Can I wear a costume at work?

That depends on your employer’s dress code. Ask your manager before you plan a group costume, and keep it safe, clean, and patient-friendly.

How did people share their ideas and photos?

Ideas went in the comments on our Halloween post, on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Photos came in by Instagram direct message to @NPTA, between October 7th and October 14th.

Can a whole team join in?

Yes. Individual and team photos were both welcome.

You’re more than just a tech…and on October 31st, you get to prove it in a costume.
